For the third episode of "Listen. Learn. Live.", I decided to visit Roland Welter at his home as his life story deeply moved me.

As a young man, in the middle of building his life, Roland learned that he was gradually and irreversibly losing his eyesight due to Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare genetic eye disease. Faced with the reality of becoming blind, he had a choice: to surrender to his fate — or to find a way to build a meaningful life around it.

He chose the latter.

But Roland went even further. Instead of focusing only on his own challenges, he founded a non-profit organisation dedicated to bringing guide dogs to Luxembourg, helping other visually impaired people gain greater independence and freedom in their everyday lives.

In this episode, he speaks very openly about the realities of living without sight — the practical challenges, the unexpected moments, the things sighted people often don't notice, and the lessons he has learned along the way.

But perhaps most importantly, Roland reminds us that we cannot always choose what happens to us in life.

We can, however, choose what we do with it.
